Wedding Season Is Here!

Summer tends to be the season of weddings, and can I tell you I’ve had many summers where it seemed I had a wedding every weekend. It’s fun to celebrate with friends on such a momentous occasion, but I kind of got “wedding gift wear-out” if such a thing exists. I just got so tired of running to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy cooking utensils they probably already had and didn’t need more of. Eventually, I started giving cash.

Now, I’m not knocking cash as a gift. It’s certainly needed, and I was certainly grateful for it as a bride myself! But it didn’t feel at all personal, and for me, gift giving is only rewarding when it’s personal. Ask my husband: gifts are my love language.

The hubs and I have been married five years (next month!) and I still remember to this day one of the best gifts I received when getting married. I have a cousin who’s a very talented artist, and for my bridal shower, she gifted me a painting of my husband and I. It was beautiful, and it was personal, and it’s still one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received.

There’s just something about personalized gifts. They show thought, effort, and love to the person receiving the gift. Plus, as a gift giver, I think they’re just more fun to give!

For this reason, I’ve started a new section of my Etsy shop inspired by the love of personalized gift giving during this wedding season. It’s small right now, but keep checking because more prints will be posted.

displaymck4I love this mason jar custom wedding print with watercolor hydrangeas (in fact, I love it so much, I’m probably going to print one for my own home!). There’s 7 different colored backgrounds to choose from to make it more personalized for each couple.

Isn’t it darling? I love the textured background, and how the mason jar “glass” reflects the color differently for each background. It’s simple enough to look great in any home, but adds enough character and personality to be noticed.

Birch-Tree2mckAnother new print I’m featuring is this Birch tree print with lovebirds. How cute is this? The background can be customized to any color your heart desires, and the lovebirds can change to any color as well, to really give it that truly personalized feel.

I love the “carved” initials in the heart of the birch tree, symbolizing a love that is permanently etched. The background adds a good pop of color to any room, and a great idea for the color of the background and birds is to find out the couple’s wedding colors. It’s a way they can forever remember their special day.

mck1-s1If you’re looking for something a bit more simple and modern, check out this black and white last name initial print. This is a great print for the modern couple. Is it simple? Yes, but it still has that personal, thinking-of-you feel that shows you put in more effort than buying them a spatula (not to knock spatulas, who doesn’t need those? I have personally “killed” many a spatula in my effort to cook over the years).

If you’re looking for something that shows you put in time, effort, and love for your gift giving wedding season, check out these prints. Order the print, then head over to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s and pick out a beautiful frame to go with it, and you’re set! You’ll be giving a gift you know they’ll love, and won’t sit dirty in their sink, or hidden away in the cupboard.

Web App “Coolors” makes it easy to find and create color palettes

I’m a sucker for color palettes, whether it’s designing prints for my etsy shop, or searching for inspiration for my home. Having a good color scheme is vital to any kind of designing you might be doing.

Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 10.46.20 AMCoolors is a web application I found recently that makes finding and saving color palettes extremely easy. All you have to do to browse thousands of random palettes (with colors that complement each other) is to hit your space bar. Save the palettes, or individual colors, that you love. Like one color but not the others? Lock in that color and browse for other colors that go well. Copy hex codes to easily import into any photo editing or illustration software.

The web app is free, but it looks like Coolors also has an iOS app as well, that only costs $0.99. Not bad for having colors on the go!

Because I have a major, exciting announcement to share with you.

As of this week, my etsy shop is now selling printed items! I feel I’m a bit behind on the times with this, and it’s something I had hoped to start doing a while ago. But it’s here now, so let’s celebrate that!

I’m still going to be offering some digital files for those who’d like to print it at home, but for my friends who don’t have access to a printer, I’m now offering for my art to be printed on heavy duty card stock paper. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this!

Bike-Plain-mckI have added a TON of listings to my site (think: weddings, nursery art, etc) so if you haven’t been over there in a while, be sure to pop over and give it a look!

Here’s just a taste of what I’m now selling, and I am just IN LOVE with this vintage bicycle print! Isn’t it so cute? I might just have to print it for my house as well! It’s just too cute not to share with you!

And in case you didn’t know, I happily accept requests for a custom piece. Obviously my store is still small and growing as I go, but if you have a request for something and don’t see it in my shop, don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Mother’s day is coming up fast, and each year I try to think of creative gifts that show women they are truly loved. Something that comes from the heart – something they will adore. This year, I want to highlight a new print on my shop – A customizable digital download print that you can frame and give to Mom that she’s guaranteed to love.

You pick the colors of your choice (up to three colors, if you’re choosing a solid colored background), you choose the nickname (anything from Mom, Mommy, Mama, Grandma, Gammie, Nana – the possibilities are endless!) and you choose the names. (Note: this feels like a given, but the number of birds on the tree reflects the number of names).

Grandma-solid-mockupAnd the best part is that I’m offering it for only $7.00 completely customized! No wait, sorry, the BEST part is that I’m holding a sale on my site for 20% off EVERYTHING using the code SPRING20. You can get this print for a STEAL!

10 Free for Commercial Use Handwritten Fonts

If you’re anything like me, you love fonts. I can’t begin to tell you how many fonts I have on my computer – the number is way too high! There’s hundreds of websites dedicated to free fonts, and there are plenty of beautiful fonts out there that you can download for free.

And if you’re just using fonts for personal use, you don’t have much to worry about when it comes to licensing. But if you’re like me and want to use free fonts for anything remotely commercial, you need to be a bit more careful about downloading any font willy-nilly.

I can’t tell you how many times I found a beautiful font I’ve wanted to use for a design, only to read that it’s “for personal use only”. I respect that. Font creators put their hearts and souls into their designs, and if they wish to have those gorgeous fonts be for personal use only, I’m not going to go against that.

On that note, I’m always looking for some free for commercial use fonts. Not that I never pay for fonts (I do), but it’s always nice to have some fonts on hand that I can use absolutely free, whether I’m just using it for a personal project, or whether I’m using it for my business.

So my first post about 100% free for commercial (and of course, personal) use fonts is on the topic of handwritten fonts. Who doesn’t love handwritten fonts? I might actually be obsessed with them! Check out the links below to download these fonts.

  1. Just Another Hand
  2. Girlie Font

  4. Harrison
  5. Angelina
  6. Goodvibes
  7. Hannahs Messy Handwriting

  9. Kristi
  10. Handlee

Do you have a favorite 100% commercial free font that’s not listed above? Share in the comments!

Speaking of fonts, I’m looking for a new font for my logo! The five fonts I’ve posted I just love all of them and I can’t choose (sorry folks, none of these fonts are free, but are available at really decent prices on

Which one is your favorite? Comment to let me know – I really need your help deciding!

New Printable: Sugar, inspired by Maroon 5

sugar-mockupLately I haven’t been able to get the song “Sugar” by Maroon 5 out of my head, and if you haven’t seen the music video for it, go watch it because it’s adorable. Even my husband loves the song (and he isn’t the biggest Maroon 5 fan), but as he says: “It’s just so catchy!”

I’ve been messing around with some typography and came up with the idea for this print, inspired by the song. At first, I wanted an ink blot for the print; something darker, but then I thought about coffee (which has become a sort of life blood since my son was born) and how the print can have sort of a double meaning.

I kind of fell in love with this design, and thought, “shoot, this would look super cute on a coffee mug.” So I headed over to cafepress and whipped up a couple of cute designs I thought I’d share with ya’ll.

PicMonkey Collage

They are currently running a sale on their mugs for 12.99, so if you’d like to purchase the “Sugar” mug, now is the time to do it! It’s super cute and I am definitely planning on ordering one for myself!

If you hop over to cafepress, there’s a few other styles to choose from, like an Acrylic Double Wall Tumbler or a Travel Mug

What do you think? Do you like the design?  Leave a comment and let me know!

FREE Spring Printable!

Last summer the hubs and I decided to redo some of the landscaping in our front yard, and in this process bought a flowering cherry tree. Unfortunately we bought it after it’s blooming season (late spring) so we never got to see it in it’s true beauty. I don’t have a green thumb by any means, but all summer I worked hard to keep that little tree alive.

It was a dry summer, so I was definitely paranoid about the tree drying up. I watered it like crazy. I remember a few times seeing the tips of the leaves turn red, as if the tree had decided to take a turn into an early fall. I’d frantically water it more. By some miracle, I managed to keep it alive.

Just the other day I was out in the front yard, the weather being at least nice enough to enjoy, and even though everything is brown and there’s not a leaf on any tree in sight, the promise of spring is definitely in the air. To my delight, my little cherry tree has buds on it. This might seem silly to you, but to me, this is a big deal. I can’t keep plants alive for the life of me! (It’d be so much easier if they were like kids and cried when they needed something!) I am just thrilled I managed to keep it alive, and I’m so looking forward to seeing it in full bloom.

I love spring. I love the colors, the warmth, the sounds of birds chirping and kids playing. there’s just something so lively about it after a long winter. That’s where my inspiration came from for this print. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! The print is free for personal use, and you may print it as many times as you like!

Needtobreathe Free Printable!

Needtobreathe This freebie comes a little later than I had planned on, and I will give you my sincerest apologies! Truth is, I’ve been toying with this design for over a week now and just didn’t love it quite yet. I had in my mind what I wanted it to look like, but I couldn’t quite communicate it on screen.

The inspiration for this print comes from one of my favorite bands, Needtobreathe. If you’ve never heard of them, please go look them  up on youtube and listen to pretty much any song. Not just the music, but the words. They have some really powerful songs out there.

One of them comes from the album “The Reckoning” and it’s called “A Place Only You Can Go”. You can listen to it here. It’s just one of those beautiful songs that really speaks to my soul. The chorus is this beautiful, simple stanza:

“Oh I know this song won’t do

enough to prove my love to you

In my heart you’ll always know

There is a place only love can go

There is a place only you can go”

I don’t know what it is about this chorus that touches me so deeply, but I just love the words to it.

The print fits an 8×10 frame but can be resized for any size frame smaller. To download the print, click here.

Please feel free to use this print for personal use, commercial use is not permitted.

Clothing Ourselves with Strength and Dignity

I recently finished the book “So Long Insecurity” by Beth Moore, which to me is a book that I would recommend any woman of any age add to their list of “must reads in my lifetime.” It’s one of those books where, within the first few pages of the very first chapter I find myself asking the questions “Does this author know me? How did she know what I was going through? Did she write this whole book about me?” I don’t normally do that with books, but this one hit so close to home it was scary.

Let me fill you in on a little secret: I struggle, sometimes daily, with insecurity. There it is. It’s out on the table: I’m insecure. Thing is, I bet if you were totally honest with yourself, you struggle with insecurity too (women and men alike). Maybe you’re insecure about your marriage, or your friendships, or your looks, or your parenting abilities, or… well, you get the picture. We all have something that makes us doubt ourselves (although I probably have more than most!). It’s why I loved this book by Beth Moore; she talks about how normal insecurity is, how so many people struggle with it, even though it’s our human nature to avoid the topic altogether.

clothedwithstrengthBLOGThroughout the book, Beth uses the verse from Proverbs 31 sort of as a slogan that we as women should adopt: “She is clothed with strength and dignity.” It’s almost ironic that I read this book when I did, because just a few short months prior I had created a print for my etsy shop centered around the very same verse. At the time I created it, I had no idea what storms I would face, what insecurities would come creeping up, and just how much I could really use that scripture.

God wants his daughters to be enveloped in strength and dignity.  I love how Beth describes what dignity is in the book:

“To possess dignity is to be worthy of respect. Worthy of high esteem. Absorb this: you are worth of respect. So am I. No matter how foolish insecurity has tried to make us feel, we have the right to dignity because God Himself gave it to us. If we really believed this truth, we wouldn’t have to mask our insecurity with pride. If we knew who we were and what God has conferred upon us, what everybody else thought of us would grow less and less significant.”

This book has really challenged me to lay down my pride and admit something I really hate to admit: I struggle with insecurity. I don’t want to hide it like some dirty little secret anymore. I refuse to. Yes, I have wounds from others that have caused many of my insecurities. Yes, I have my own self-inflicted scars where I’ve foolishly hurt myself. But I’m on a healing path. I might never be completely void of insecurity, it might sneak back now and then, but I can be “clothed with strength and dignity” the way God originally intended for me (and you!) to be.

Instead of seeing myself through the eyes of the world, or through my own critical eyes, I can see myself through the eyes of my Creator.

Instead of comparing myself to other women, other wives, other moms, I need to be focused on who Christ designed me to be: A woman drenched in the security that comes from the Father. I absolutely believe it’s an obtainable goal.

After finishing the book, I was inspired to revise my original print, and I’m in love with the final outcome. I’m planning on printing it and framing it up in my bedroom, so that when I wake up, I’ll see this scripture and be reminded of who I am to be; who God wants me to be.

If you’d like your own copy to print off at home, I’m offering a special deal through my site for 50% off this print with the coupon code: PROVERBS31. That makes this print a whopping $2.50.

proverbs-mockupIf you don’t have the money to spend, or maybe you don’t even like the style of the print (that’s okay!), then at least write this scripture down on a sticky note, and stick it somewhere you’ll see it everyday. Remind yourself that this is what God intends for his children; not a life of living in constant insecurity. We as women have too many negative messages thrown at us daily, and sometimes we just need a reminder of our true value.

And most of all, please go read Beth Moore’s book. It’s so incredibly eye opening, and has helped me tremendously through some really tough battles (sometimes battles with myself). It’s just ten bucks for the kindle version, and you won’t regret spending the money. Or, shoot, find a local library that carries it. Just read it. Seriously. It might bring some healing to your life that you’ve desperately needed, like it did with me.
